christmas is coming!

these are a few of our memory-building-first-christmas things...

i am super excited about spending our first married christmas in our little apartment all snug as bugs :) my absolutely favorite decorating piece this year is my grandparents old nativity set! they've had it in there house as long as i can remember and i used to just lay down next to it and tell my grandma that that was the only thing of theirs i ever wanted someday...

so we set it up this past tuesday night for the very first time!

Theeeen Tuesday we roadtripped up to Boone to see the Flanigans and cut down a christmas tree! We got miserably lost on the way up. Of course we would. hahaha. I've only been to Boone like, 6 times, and we still get lost. But it was an adventure.

This is me trying to drive Daniel's car for the VERY FIRST TIME in 2 years while he studied on the way didn't last too terribly long :P

A road was closed so we decided to venture out onto a mountain road and after about 30 minutes - no joking - an angel on a tractor told us which windy turns to make for the NEXT half hour until we found ourselves in Blowing Rock, which for those of you who don't very close to Boone. Horrah! And our tree is wonderful and his name is Dead Ted. Only he is alive now that we decorated him with glowing lights and ornaments and love :)

As you can see, Daniel wasn't entirely sure at first that Ted was the right tree for us...

But he soon embraced him as our own :)

So here he is now...fully decorated.
Wait no, this is a sneak peek ;)

i am embarrassed that my christmas tree picture is BLURRY. and so it is better to not show you at all until i take a proper one, i think :)

The Colemans are singing delightfully cheery Christmas tunes and sipping hot cocoa and eating cupcakes. Ewww. Lots of cupcakes. I mean, the first 6 or so were good...we clearly need to have company over more ;)

Today is Tuesday.

My verse of the day:

Okay, there are lots of things I want to say - most of which have to do with food.
The LEAST of these would be that I finally took a picture of my beautiful green bread box for your viewing pleasure. It doesn't hold bread. It is the happy home for my camera and our cell phones.

Okay, so now the part that makes my mouth water. Daniel and I both loooooooove Indian food. And last night i was totally craving it. Like, pregnancy craving minus the being pregnant part. The thing is though:
1.) the place we like to go to is a little pricey
2.) We are always the only white people there
3.) We can't read the menu at ALL. The same man is always there and we just ask him to give us "'that yellow curried chicken' and whatever else he thinks we'd like." So as much as we may like it - we're no experts. So we were getting ready to head out the door and I remembered that I'd POSSIBLY seen Indian food at Trader Joe's? So we decided to go there and they had all this in the frozen section and we decided to give it a try:

Go buy these things...NOW. We couldn't believe how good it was. Tastes JUST like Rajhbog - our Indian food place of choice :)

So for $7.50 we gorged ourselves with heavenly things. I think I'm going to try and figure out how to make Chicken Paneer Tikka Masala. Thats our favorite. The kind shown above is the same, only with Tofu. And the SECOND best part - next to eating it, of course, is that your house has that awesome curry smell for hours afterwards. Many of you may not like this, but if they sold curry candles...mmmmmm.

Okay, I'm seriously done. That is all. We are doing well. Room 301 is cheerful indeed :)

I'm feeling a little torn right now...

I started ANOTHER blog.

I know, right? I can barely keep up with one.  Probably not the wisest of moves. Its Its linked to this account. I don't really get how that works. In some ways I think I'm tech-savvy and all, but these blogs are just so confusing to me...

These are some of the pictures I've been playing with the past few days that I'm going to be putting up in our apartment! I found TTV screens on Flickr and found 12x12 frames at AC Moore. LIME green frames. We'll need to spraypaint those... but I'm starting with four of them.

And I got the idea from this you know i'm not that clever. i've seen it done before :P

Will let you all know how it turns out! I'll be heading BACK to Walmart again to try and print them. People do NOT like printing 12x12's. And their machines don't either, apparently.

Daniel is in our office working on 'school papers' that will only take 15 minutes which OBVIOUSLY means that he is doing something wonderful for my birthday tomorrow!

I'm such an assuming wife. But seriously, its the only logical explanation...He put an empty trash can in front of the me, i guess? tehe :)

So other than waiting for my office-dweller, I just finished painting a cute little bread box while watching 3 1/2 episodes of Pushing Up Daisies - which seems like far too much time to paint such a small thing. We bought to turn into a little self contained charging station for our cell phones and HOPEFULLY my camera bag and lenses...I think it will all fit.

ALSO: on a completely unrelated note: we have decided we're writing a book. I don't know EXACTLY how its going to go yet. It will probably just be for fun and be for us and our family, but the only for sure thing is that it will be awesome!!!

So happy sunday tomorrow. Oh, and Christmas songs were on the radio today. I drove to the mall and heard The Little Drummer Boy, Jingle Bell Rock and All I Want for Christmas, and that War Is Over song...maybe thats what its called. I got BACK in my car and heard War Is Over, Jingle Bell Rock (not even kidding) and The Little Drummer Boy AGAIN before I turned off the radio. Hmmm...hope this isn't a pattern, because I do love Christmas music as long as theres a LITTLE variety.

My lens came!!!

So this afternoon i am sipping on leftover jasmine tea from my coffee date with Charlotte and Kat. Girl time just seems so much sweeter these days. Probably since its a little less frequent. Oh oh oh! and Im going to be a bridesmaid for the FIRST TIME EVER this august!!!!! AAAGGHHHH!!!!! my good friend Katherine Dixon went to Wales, UK for a year this past fall and fell in love with a british man. The good news though, is that she is bringing him here. And the four of us are going to be such good friends :)

This is them. and david would not like this picture because he is actually a very sweet person. and he really loves kat. so i am thrilled to help her get maarrrieeed!

Oh, but all of that to say that i got my LEEENS. It is so beautiful. I've been eyeing for more than a year but have never bought it and Daniel finally convinced me (sometimes...that is what husbands are for. if you have big-purchase antsies like me. tehe)

And i was so anxious to try it out, i called my little brother - who is GRADUATING this year. (Agghhmygosh!!!) and told him that we needed a brother/sister date to take senior pictures asap. So this afternoon, I am listening to Animal Collective with the aforementioned cup of tea and editing pictures. What a sweet afternoon!

Seriously young can't say two words about Edward Cullen after these. My brother is a serious stud. Not gonna lie. I really do think that Daniel, my brother and dad are the three most handsome men alive. And photogenic, too :)

I leaving you all in such suspense as you wait for a facial shot ;)

That is all. My shrimp dish last night didn't turn out quite as yummy as i thought. Not bad. Just not the taste i was expecting. Real Simple pictures are so deceptive :P Probably not worth shelling the footies off of a pound of shrimp for (yuuuuck!) but we will carry on - up next is homemade potstickers.

Oct 17, 2009

rainy weekends... not make for productive wife days. Yesterday i found myself doodling silly things

when i had piles of laundry just aching to be cleaned, which i typically don't mind, because i love the smell of my Tide Cold Water. Maybe weird? But it is sooooo goood!
(also: i realize most women would probably laugh at this pitiful pile. trust had already been dealt with largely by the time i took this picture)

bug i also had pretty white canvases begging to be painted:

"paint me mindy....PAINT me!"

And really...who can resist that? So i pulled out (what is left of) all of my pretty paints

and made pretty pictures for our walls :)
i like them. well...if i had to do the raincloud again, i think i'd change him. But the sun makes me so glad :D they're little indians! and i know you cant really see it, but the raincloud has little baby indian drops under her. daniel liked them. and i like them. so they are worthy to go up in the coleman home!

THEN i became totally engrossed in this website with super delicious food on it called aggghhhhh. she has these beautiful truffles on it that i am going to make for Daniel's birthday Thursday. Shhhh. Don't tell him, though ;)

And then I realized that I needed to make my OWN dinner and stop daydreaming about all of the yummy things I wanted to make before my husband came home from work. And I actually am off to do the very same thing now.

Tonight is creamy shrimp with corn and bacon. It needs a better name, but looks heavenly. Yum yum yum.

We Are Married Now. :)

I think I speak for both of us in saying that we are SO glad to be finally married. Today is October 10th, which was the original date for our wedding and it would have been a beautiful day - but I'm glad we bumped it up the whole month and five days. It seems like we've been married forever and ever already. And its so much fun :)

My brain is in complete overload right now. There are tons and tons of pictures that I want to post all at the same time.

This is our living room about 5 minutes after we got back from honeymooning in Asheville:

And this was waiting for me on our fridge :)

Aaaand this is the lens i FINALLY just mustered up the nerve to splurge on:

Because of this (its small, i know. my bigger one didn't want to load):

Daniel is (possibly) studying right now. We are taking a break to catch up on The Office. Soon.

We're ALIVE!!!

Sorry for the no-updates.

You understand, i think :)

But we are doing sooooooooooo good! We've both been working like mad. And Daniel has been studying and schooling. I, on the other hand, having neither of these things, come home and am greeted by LOTS of dishes - and dirty laundry. Which, I might add, has NOT disappeared once in the last three weeks until today. I think I'm finally caught up for at least the next half hour or so until I start dinner. Phew. What a cycle. I do like doing it though. Its one of those instantly gratifying things. I have NO idea how women with kids do this. Haha.

A good update is coming up soon. We'll have pictures and stuff.

The Colemans

p.s. Okay, I thought I would put a picture in here from this time last year at the FAIR!!! Ahh, I wish we'd been able to go this year, it was SO much fun. Maybe next though? And also...sorry about our faces. They normally don't look quite like that. The fisheye lens got us all a little funny :P

The Final Countdown!!!

Today is my last Sunday as an Odell...

Thursday my bestie - Sydney Deltnre flys in ALL the way from Arizona for our wedding!!! And we're having my bachelorette party that evening. (Dinner and a movie folks, no worries ;))

Friday is pampering day for the Odell ladies and grandmas. Manicures and NO more thinking about weddings until the rehearsal that night. Followed by an amazingly yummy dinner...

Friday NIGHT I am going to try SO hard to fall asleep...It'll be so much worse than Christmas. Haha.

Time Flies When You're Planning a Wedding

I can't believe we're getting married in 16 days!!!

This is Daniel, by the way. Mindy's been having all the fun on here, so I think it's time I made my own contribution :) First things first: I've been wanting to post pictures of some of the pretty new apartment furniture we've been fixing up over the last few weeks. Here's a picture of our buffet-style entertainment center before it made the short journey to my apartment (We had to sand it down reeeeally good first)

Now here's that lovely white beast after he'd been meticulously painted and positioned in my living room:
We've got some other fun furniture in the works right now (including some super comfy couches...thanks mom!), but I'm gonna wait 'til I have my professional home-maker here before I show off any more :P

Quick Announcements: For those of you who have NOT rsvp'd yet, please do! There's still room and time if you do it right now :) Also, we've gotten some feedback from folks who were unable to visit the RSVP "website" written on the invitation. Just for the record, is an email address, not a website. You should be able to email that address without setting up any special account. The same goes for this blog, too. You can post comments as a guest without setting up an entire blogger account. Please email us if you have any more tech questions :)

Until wedding bells toll :)

Goodness. I don't even know where to start...I'm pretty positive things are coming right along. This week is going to be my work-super-hard-and-long-on-everything week. So that hopefully we wont end up with any extra things to do those last few weeks.

Daniel starts school up again on the 24th, and that in itself is going to be a big adjustment. I'm so used to just having to work around his work schedule to see him, but work AND school will require a little more skillful planning. Definitely doable.

I have pictures. Our sweet friend Jonathan Volk took engagement pictures for us a few weeks back and I have a few of them. I would like to wait until we actually get the disc of pics before I post any, though.

And Daniel said he would post some apartment pictures, too. Because we painted a whole bunch of furniture. Its exciting to me at least...

Invitations Are OUT!!!

Actually, though, I'm still sending out a few more...they're MOSTLY out ;)

Jul 21, 2009

Today I went in to get my dress altered, with my mom and Crystal, and on the way home we drove past this little house - with a little old man riding on his mower and we saw the most BEAUTIFUL patch of flowers!!! Actually, there were several patches and it looked like such a beautiful place to take wedding photos. So we decided, after debating for about a mile, that we would turn back around and see if they would let us take pictures there - AND if they sold their flowers. So we flagged down the little man on his riding mower and he called his wife outside and the next thing we knew we were riding on the back of a golf cart to this grove of flowers and she was picking us bouquets and we're totally getting our flowers from them! They were both incredibly sweet. She also makes her own jam and sells veggies and sourdough bread and all sorts of delicious things, so let me know if you want her number! They're right off of Poplar Tent and Eastfield.

We also went to Habitat and bought pretty vases for the reception. What a good day :)

I am feeling incredibly productive, I must say.

Daniel also got a wall in our apartment painted. The complex will paint ONE wall for us. We chose this pretty grey-ish purpley color. It was called...spring mist? Something like that. And I am SO looking forward to seeing it.

Also on my to do wise, is to paint a dresser and a TV cabinet. One of these days when I just have extra time ;)

I will post pictures when I finally see it!
